Juniors Win Southern Trophy Cup

23 September 2019

Sunday 8th September marked the end of the U19 programmes season, All the Warrior U19 programmes team except the Youth Kitted team reached the playoffs. In Flag both U17 and U12 teams reached the National Finals Tournament. The U17 Flag team reach 5th overall in the UK beating the Waveney Wolves 13-12. The U12 team went one better and reached the Place finals and came 3rd overall beating the Chorley Buccaneers Red beards 24-6. Finally the Juniors, after losing a disappointing Semi Finals to the now National Champions the London Blitz, the Junior Kitted team faced the Solent Seahawks and won the Southern Trophy Cup 56-18.

 

 

U19 Teams Reach Play offs

When people think of the London Warriors they mostly think of the Senior Team with thier rececnt dominace of the Premier Division, but in context the Junior program started it all 2005 winning back to back National chamipionshios from 2005 to 2008 then again in 2013. the Youth programme followed behind winning National Championshiod in 2010 and 2012.

The only part of the U19 programme that hasn't brought home any Championship gold is the U12 and U17 Flag programmes. This year that could all change, The U12 programme finished 1st in thier Conference with a recored of 11-1 and are reaady to challenge for the National Championship in the U12 National Flag tournament.

The U17 Flag team finish 4th place in thier conferrence with a recored of 8-3-1 and are heading into National Championship Tournament as the 6th Seed.

Finally the Junior programme enters the playoffs for the first time since thier 2013 National Championshio with a record of 5-1 , they will face the Reigning National Champions the London Blitz in the Semi Finals. The Winner goes onto the National Championship the Loser faces the Solent Seahawks for the Southern Cup.

 

 

U19 Tackle Half Season Recap

The Youth Tackle team come back to competition after a year out, With two tournaments down and two left to go for the Warriors Youth Kitted Team. in the first Tournament in Cobham the Warriors faced The East Kent Mavericks beating them convingly 48-26. Next was the hosts the Cobham Cougars, The Warriors put up a spirited fight losing narrowly  34-28. After two hard fought matches and some injuries a depleted Warriors team faced the Essex Spartans. unfortuatley the Warrior had another loss 37-20. The Second Tournament was at the London Blitz. A depleted Warriors squad face the East Kent Mavericks in the first game. The Warriors quicky went down by two scores in the first half. In the second half the Warriors made a spirited comeback and with 29 seconds left the Warriors made a drive down the field and score the TD and extra point to tie the game 26-26. Next up came the hosts The London Blitz after a close fought first half the Blitz pull away due to Warrior injuries the Warriors were unable to pull it back. The Blitz came out winners 26-12. Due to injuries that led to lack of numbers the Warriors had to forfiet against the Kent Exiles 1-0. With two more tournaments left the Warriors have a lot to prove.
Half way through the season we take a look at the Junior Team. The Junior Warrior team had three back to back games first they faced the Wembley Stallions in the first game, after a shaky start turning the ball over on the first play the Stallions punished the Warriors by putting the ball in the endzone for the score. After that is was moslty one way traffic, the Warriors put together a 24 unanswered scoring streak. The Warriors made tons of mistakes but came out winners 24-6. Next up came thier cross town rivals the London Blitz, The Warriors marred with mistakes and turnovers failed to put any points on the board losing 34-0 to the Blitz. The Solent Seahawks was next on the card, Warriors made a great start taking the opening kickoff back for a TD, The Warriors added two further scores before the Seahawks answered with a TD of thier own. The Warriors ended the half with another specatcular TD Catch. in the second half the Seahawks made a spirited comeback scoring two more TDS in the 4th quarter. With time running out the Warriors took a knee to secure the victory 26-20. The Warriors are now 2-1 with 3 games left and are in a good position to make the play offs.
This Saturday the U12 Flag Team has thier First Tournament of the season hosted by the Kent Exiles, with the Warriors U12 team making the playoffs the last two season, lets hope they can go one better and take home the trophy this year.

Juniors earn 1st Win Over Stallions

The London Warrior Junior Team started thier campaign off with a win against the Wembley Stallions. Everything was not smooth sailing though.On the first play of the game the Warriors turned the ball over and the Stalions capitallized and put to payd dirt putting points onthe score board first. it was a scrappy win full of mistakes and turnovers but the Warriors over came thier mistakes and the Stallions defence and put together a 24 point unanswered scoring run to win 24-6.

Next week the Warriors will face thier other cross town rivals the National Champions the London Blitz, the Warriors haven't beaten the Blitz Juniors in a while, but hoping to change that this sunday at Finsbury park Kick off 12:00 noon.

 

London Warriors earn their fifth National Championship

09 September 2018

The game started off with Tamworth having the ball, after some short gains the Warriors defense made short work of the phoniex offense sacking the QB for a loss and Tamworth had to punt the ball away. The Warriors offense was off to a quick start with Nick Jacquet connecting with Luc-benjamin for a 28 yard strike, before Raymond Sobowate rushed off the left side 18 yards for the opening score extra point was good. Tamworth's second drive was litter with flags causing them to punt he ball away again. Warriors start on the 13th yard line. Nick Jacquet connects with Benjamin again for a first down, then connects with Phil Newport for a 59 yard score, extra point is good 14-0 Warrior lead. At ths point it looked like the game was going to get out of tamworths control with two Warrior quick scores, but Tamworth had other ideas running back the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for the score extra point is good 14-7. Warriors start thier next drive on thier own 15 yard line. Warriors goes no where on thier next drive and a bad snap over the puters head gives Tamworth great field position inside the Warriors red zone,a few plays later Tamworth connects with a TD pass in the endzone to tie the score 14-14.

2nd Quarter Warriors start with the ball the Tamworth defence stiffens and holds the Warirors to a 3 and out, Warriors pun the ball Tamworth muffs the punt giving the Warriors great fields position. Dwayne Watson punches the ball in for the Warriors score no extra point 20-14. Penalties continue to haunt Tamworth as they give the ball back to the Warriors. Good Running by Raymond Sobowate as he breaks tackles on his way to another score, extra point is good Warriors lead 26-14, A good return by Tamworth set them up on thier own 45, a couple of good runs by Tamworth see them chopping down the Warriors lead with a 17 yard TD run extra point is good 26-21. With 17 seconds left in the half the Warriors were in scoring range Raymond Sobowate punches the ball in again for his third touchdown extra point is good Warriors lead 34-21 at the Half.

3rd Quarter Warriors start with the ball and driving strong into Tamworth's half Nick Jacquet connects with Phil Newport again for a 33 yard TD score Warriors extend thier lead extra point is good 41-21. On the next Tamworth drive Dan Mackenzie intercepts the Tamworth QB and returns it to the Tamworth 21 yard line, a few plays later Warriors running back Watson fumble the ball giving back to Tamworth. Some fine running by the Tamworth backs,then a pass over the middle for a Tamworth TD extra point is good makes the score 41-28. At the start of the 4th Quarter the Warriors extend thier lead with a run from Dwayne Watson the extra point is good making the score 48-28. Tamworth scored one more time to make the score 48-34, but with limited time left on the clock the Warriors run out the clock and regained thier National Championship.

 

Efe Obada makes Panthers 53 man Roster

Warriors would like to congratulate Efe Obada for making the Carolina Panthers 53 Man Roster

Efe Journey was long and hard but he never gave up. Efe began playing American Football for the London Warriors in 2014, he played on 5 games playing Tight End and Defensive End. Based on the Recommendation of Then Warriors Defensive Coordinator Aden Durde. Obada was given the opportunity to work out for the Dallas Cowboys before their game against the Jaguars in London.  Obada was raw and inexperienced but got signed as an undrafted free agent on 1 april 2015. He then was released to make way for another player and resigned to The Dallas Practise squad. on March 9 2016 Obada was Signed by the Chiefs but was released by the Team on June 7th. On July 28th 2016 he was signed by the Falcons and then waved on August 27th. In 2017 Efe was signed by the Panthers on the International Player Pathway which guarenteed him a position on the practise squad, but he would be in eligable to be promoted to the 53 man roster. in 2018 Obada has now been signed to the Panthers 53 man roster!

Sorrow For Warrior Family

Warrior Family It's with great sadness that I have to inform you that one of the Orignal Warriors, Irenie Jenkins, Warrior extroadnaire has passed away. Those of you who got to know Irenie will no doubt remember her strength, wisdom and support that she offered to the Warriors during our fledgling years. Commiserations and continued blessings goes out to Rob Jenkins and his family during this difficult time. Irenie you are special and will always be remembered as a Warrior RIP

Tigie Sankoh formerly of the South London Renegades Junior Team, Filton Academy in Bristol and The London Warriors Senior team as a Defensive Back has been recently
signed by the Cleveland Browns.Whilst playing with the Warriors he was later scouted for the NFL International Player Pathway Program.

 

Junior Season Starts of With The Blitz

After a frustrating 2017 season as a affiliate team the London Warriors Juniors 2018 Seaon kicks off with the National Champions The London Blitz. The first home game come two weeks later against Hertordshire Cheetahs. The Warriors played a spirited game against the Cheetahs in their 2017 affiliate year losing 36-37 in a heart attack game losing on the last play. The week after we play against new boys Cobham Cougars, mainly gradutates from thier sucessful Youth team the Cougars should be a strong challenger in the conference. Onwards to Solent for a game against the Seahawks who were winners of the Southern Trophy. Next the Junior go away to Thames Valley to face the Tigers, two Junior team merged to from the Tigers another force in the southern conference for the Warriors to negotiate. And Finally a home game against Sussex Thunder, like the Warriors the Thunder have been out of National Competition for a while, no doubt they will be ready for a tough game.

Warrior Coach ends up in the NFL

Former Warrior Coach Aden Durde has landed a job with the Atlanta Falcon. Durde has been appointed as an assistant defensive coach for the Atlanta Falcons which makes him the first british coach to be employed in a fulltime coaching role inthe NFL. Aden started off playing for the London Olympians before moving onto NFL Europe developmental league in 2003. The Londoner had stints with the Scottish Claymores and the Hamburg Blue Devils before getting the opportunity to get onto the NFL Practise squad of two teams. The Carolina Panthers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Aden retired in 2008 and returned to London working as a youth Mentor in Enfield. After Three year Aden aslo reached out to the Warriors and became the Defensvie Coordinator for the Senior team as he wanted to get back into football.Aden Join the Cowboys as an intern in 2014, he since returned back to the USA to work with the Cowboys again and then twice with the Falcons whilst maintining the role as head of the NFL International Pathway Programme, Identifying potental NFL talent outside of America, and the rest you can say is history. The Warriorr Programme wishes Aden all the success in future hopefully more can follow in his footsteps.

Warriors Team 3rd Place in Sapphire Tournament

After finishing second in the southern conference with a record of 4-2 behind The Birmingham Lions the London Warriors were in position to challenge for the National Title come the Sapphire Finals Tournament.In the first semi final game they would face the number 1 seed from the North the Leeds Chargers the winner would face the winner of the Birmingham Lions and the Manchester Titans.The Warriors came up short 34-14 which means they would face the Manchester Titans for third place who got beaten by the Birmingham Lions 42-2. Whilst the Birmingham Lions rolled on to win thier 5th National Title 40-22. The London Warriors came in third with an impressive shut out win 34-0

Catching Up With Another Warrior

Time to catch up with another Warrior Sean Anthony. Sean joined the Warriors Youth team in 2013, played one season for the Cheetahs in 2014 before coming back to the Warriors and playing Junior football in 2015. in 2016 Sean departed for the States to play High School Football for the Bishop Montgomery Knights. fast forward to 2017 Sean has now graduated from High School and is Studying at Orange Coast Community College and is fighting for a spot on the roster at the Orange Coast College Pirates. The Warriors Youth and Junior coaching staff wish Sean all the best and will catch up with him in the near future

 

Another Warrior Impresses State Side

We mention in an earlier article that Zac Cooney-Quinn earlier this year was sitting his SAT tests and applying for Schools State. Well Zac has just finished his first Season of football at IMG Academy of Sports in Florida. IMG Academy had close to 100 players turn up for their fall practise this year. With the rapid growth of their football program they enter two teams into competition this year. IMG first team finished undefeated at 9-0 whilst the IMG Blue team finished at a respectable 4-4. Zac played multiple positions on defence and also came up with some game saving plays.Watch this space as i'm sure we will hear more about him in the future.

 

Warrior Make Waves Across the Pond

Former London Warrior Junior and Youth Player Jamal Hayden is Making waves in Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. Making one of the players of the Week against Seton Hall Griffins.
